SALUDA, SC….Four Saluda High School FFA members were awarded scholarships by the Saluda Young Farmer and Agribusiness Chapter at the Senior Awards Program on Tuesday, May 22.
Andrew Forest, Kayla Rodgers, Ashton Berry and Hunter Price were each presented a $2000 scholarship by Russ Miller, vice president of the Saluda Young Farmer organization.
The scholarships are named in honor of William A. Whitfield who served as agricultural education instructor at Saluda High School from 1965-1981 and principal from 1982-1995. Mr. Whitfield was instrumental in organizing the first Truck and Tractor Pull in 1978 which is sponsored by the Saluda Young Farmer Chapter. Profits from the event are used for scholarships and presented to outstanding area students. More than $100,000 in scholarships has been awarded local students over the years.
The Young Farmer and Agribusiness Chapter is the primary Continuing Agricultural Educational Program for Adults at Saluda High School headed up by Amanda Nichols, Agricultural Education Instructor.
