FIRST PLACE HONORSCOLUMBIA, SC….The Wagener-Salley High School FFA Tool Identification Team took first place state honors in the agricultural engineering-related event held at the State Fair Grounds in Columbia recently, according to John W. Parris, spokesperson for the SC FFA Association.
Team members Ben Blackwell, Kyle Clarke, Derek Shealy and Trevor West were coached by Allen Williams, Agricultural Education Instructor at Wagener-Salley High School, and Roman Fox, a Clemson University senior in Agricultural Education, who has been practice teaching under the supervision of Mr. Williams. Ben Blackwell was the third high individual scorer in the state competition.
Woodmont FFA Tool Identification Team members Buster Bishop (left) Caleb McCoy, Troy Tillotson and Perrin Hardee.Woodmont FFA members Buster Bishop, Caleb McCoy, Troy Tillotson and Perrin Hardee were named the State Runner-up Team. They were coached by Matt Rollins, Agricultural Education Instructor at Woodmont. Buster Bishop was the second high scorer in the state event.
The Travelers Rest team made up of David Hinley, Elizabeth Kelly, Maggie Moody and Jonathan Hicks, place third in the state finals. Jonathan Hicks was the high individual scorer in the state competition. This team was coached by Jason Wigington, Agricultural Education Instructor at Travelers Rest High School.
“Participation in the FFA-sponsored event is limited to first year agricultural education students in the ninth or tenth grades,” Parris said.
The Tool Identification competition is conducted by Clemson University Agricultural Education Administrative staff with assistance from the Clemson Collegiate FFA Organization.
The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
