AGRICULTURAL LEADERS RECEIVE NATIONAL FFA AWARD

COLUMBIA, SC….Four South Carolina agricultural leaders were awarded the Honorary American FFA Degree by the National FFA Organization at a special ceremony held during the national convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, recently, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA Association.

Recipients of the national award were Thomas S. Welsh of Columbia, Executive Vice President of AgFirst Farm Credit Bank; Dr. Thomas R. Dobbins of Townville, Program Coordinator and Professor of Agricultural Education at Clemson University; Larry E. Greer of Anderson, a retired Agricultural Educator from Anderson School District Five and a member of the Anderson County Council; and Steve McCannon of Pendleton, an Agricultural Education Instructor at the B.J. Skelton Career Center in Easley.

“The Honorary American FFA Degree is the highest and most prestigious award presented to a friend and supporter by the 500,000-member National FFA Organization,” Mr. Parris said. “More than 55,000 FFA members, agricultural education instructors, and other supporters representing every state, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, attended the 80 th annual National FFA Convention which was televised live nationally on the RFD-TV Network,” he added.

The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through Agricultural Education.
