MCBEE FFA CHAPTER AWARDED GRANT

MCBEE, SC…The McBee FFA Chapter has been awarded a $12,500 grant by the Byerly Foundation of Hartsville, SC, to be used for designing, installing and maintaining an irrigation system on the McBee High School athletic fields, according to Pat Earle, Agricultural Education Instructor.

“Titled ‘Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live and Living to Serve’, the grant will provide students an opportunity to incorporate ‘real world’ skills as they plan, order supplies and install all of the parts,” Mr. Earle said. “This project will create a real life laboratory for the students to apply lessons learned in Agriculture classes” according to Mr. Earle. “It will beautify the campus which is a major attraction in our community and, thus, enhance the quality of life for students and other local residents,” Mr. Earle added.

“The project is unique in that Agriculture students are involved from the planning stages through completion of construction,” Mr. Earle emphasized

The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agriculture education.
