DUBOSE NAMED PRESIDENT OF SC AGRICULTURAL EDUCATORS

 COLUMBIA, SC….Harry M. DuBose, a member of the faculty at Carolina Forest High School in Myrtle Beach, has been named president of the South Carolina Agricultural Educators Association for 2007-08, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs for the organization.

A former president of the SC FFA Association, Mr. DuBose graduated from Socastee High School where he was a member of the State Championship FFA Parliamentary Procedure Team and named State Champion in the FFA Public Speaking competition.

Mr. DuBose graduated from Clemson University with Honors in Agricultural Education. He was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Alpha Tau Alpha, Alpha Gamma Rho and Gamma Sigma Delta. He also accepted a commission in the US Army Reserves.

After teaching for a short period at Bell’s High School near Walterboro and serving his initial obligation with the US Army, Mr. DuBose returned to Clemson University to pursue a MS Degree in Horticulture Science with a minor in Agricultural Education.

Upon completion of the requirements for the MS Degree, Mr. DuBose taught Horticulture Science at Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory, NC. He also served as Chair of the Environmental and Life Sciences Division and Director of Continuing Education for the college.

Simultaneously, Mr. DuBose served in the NC Army National Guard as a company commander and assistant battalion training officer. He was ordered into active duty several times and traveled to a number of foreign countries. He served as an assistant professor of Military Science and Adjutant at NC State University. While at NC State University, he completed the coursework for a PhD Degree in Horticultural Science with a minor in Adult Education.

Mr. DuBose returned to his roots in Horry County where he taught at Horry- Georgetown Technical College, Aynor High School, the Academy for the Arts, Science and Technology and most recently at Carolina Forest High School.

Selected as Teacher of the Year at the Academy for the Arts, Science and Technology, Mr. DuBose was also named Conservation Teacher of the Year and Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year in Horry County. He was chosen as one of eight US representatives to teach agriculture education in Russia and the Ukraine in the summer of 1995.

Recently retired from the US Army Reserves as a full Colonel, Mr. DuBose served as a Battalion Commander and Deputy Training Officer. He was awarded the NC Legion of Merit, the US Meritorious Service Award, the Army Commendation Medal, the Iraq Freedom Ribbon, and the National Guard and Army Reserve Service Ribbons.

Mr. DuBose and his wife, Gayle, have two children--Joel Grant of Myrtle Beach and April Nicole of Atlanta. Mr. and Mrs. DuBose are active members of Trinity Episcopal Church in Myrtle Beach.
