STATE FFA OFFICERS ELECTED

CLEMSON, SC….Spencer C. McLeod of McBee was elected president of the South Carolina FFA Association for 2007-08 at the State FFA Convention held at Clemson University, June 13-15, 2007, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA organization. Spencer, a rising senior at McBee High School where he is serving as student body president, is the son on Kemp and Gaie McLeod. His FFA advisor is Pat Earle, Agricultural Education Instructor at McBee High School.

R. Hunter Cooper of Calhoun Falls was named state secretary. A rising senior at Calhoun Falls High School, he is the son of Stan and Mary Cooper. His FFA advisor is Calvert Sherard, Agricultural Education Instructor at Calhoun Falls High School.

William Nelson of Clinton was named vice president for the Piedmont Region. A 2007 graduate of Laurens District 55 High School, he is the son of James and Dawn Nelson. His FFA advisor is Melanie Birchmore, Agricultural Education Instructor at Laurens High School.

Desiree Lynn Kinneer of Fort Mill was named vice president for the Mid State Region. A 2007 graduate of Indian Land High School, she is the daughter of Robert and Sherri Kinneer. Her FFA advisor is Troy Helms, Agricultural Education Instructor at Indian Land High School.

Heather Renee Coleman of Dillon was named vice president for the Pee Dee Region. A 2007 graduate of Latta High School, she is the daughter of Carl and Renee Coleman. Her FFA advisor is Annette Kirton, Agricultural Education Instructor at Latta High School.

Brittany Mixson of Cope was named vice president for the Lower State Region. A rising senior at Edisto High School, she is the daughter of Mitchell and Monique Mixson. Her FFA advisor is Barry Hawkins, Agricultural Education Instructor at Edisto High School.

The FFA, formerly known as the Future Farmers of America, is a national organization of more than 495,000 members in 7242 chapters located in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Many of these students are preparing for careers in the science, business or technology of agriculture. They are enrolled in agricultural education courses in secondary schools, community colleges or universities. With more than 300 career opportunities, Agriculture is the largest industry in the nation employing approximately 20 percent of the total work force.

The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
