HAWKSWORTH IS STATE FFA STAR IN AGRICULTURE PLACEMENT

CLEMSON, SC….Justin Hawksworth of McBee was named the State FFA Star in Agriculture Placement by the SC FFA Association at a recent ceremony at Clemson University, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA organization.

A 2007 graduate of McBee High School and active member of the FFA chapter, Justin was recognized for his superb accomplishments as an employee of Johnson Lawn Service. He is responsible for maintaining more than 80 residential lawns, 20 commercial business grounds and 10 cemeteries in the McBee area. His responsibilities include mowing and trimming lawns, hedging shrubbery, spraying for unwanted species of plants and maintenance of all company-owned lawn equipment. Justin attributes his success in operating and maintaining the equipment to his Agricultural Mechanics courses at McBee High School.

A member of the 2007 State Champion FFA Agronomy Team, Justin will attend the University of South Carolina in Lancaster for two years beginning this fall. He plans to enroll at Clemson University for his junior and senior years to earn a degree in Agricultural Education.

Justin is the son of David and Jill Hawksworth of McBee. His FFA advisor is Pat Earle, Agricultural Education Instructor at McBee High School.

“This is the highest award presented to an FFA member who is actively and successfully involved in Agriculture Placement to fulfill the requirements of his supervised agricultural experience program,” Parris said. “Only one agricultural education student in South Carolina may receive this honor in any given year,” he added. This prestigious award is sponsored by the South Carolina FFA Foundation in concert with the SC FFA Association.
