MCLEOD NAMED STATE FFA STAR IN AGRIBUSINESS

CLEMSON, SC….State FFA President Spencer C. McLeod of McBee was named the State FFA Star in Agribusiness by the SC FFA Association at a special ceremony held at Clemson University recently, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA organization.

“This is the highest award presented to an FFA member who is actively engaged in agribusiness,” Parris said. “Only one student in South Carolina may receive this prestigious honor each year,” he added. This recognition program is co-sponsored by Southern States Cooperative and the SC FFA Foundation.

Spencer is the son of Kemp and Gaie McLeod of Mcbee. His FFA advisor is Pat Earle, Agricultural Education Instructor at McBee High School.

A rising senior at McBee High School where he is student body president, Spencer plays an extensive management role in the marketing of peaches, strawberries and other truck crops at his family-owned and operated farm. He has excelled in his ability to utilize computer programs and high-tech equipment to sort fruit according to size and weight. He is also responsible for maintaining all of the equipment in the fruit sorting department. In order to expedite successful communication and become a more efficient supervisor of employees, Spencer has learned to speak the Spanish language.

The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
