ABBEVILLE FFA DAIRY FOODS TEAM HEADED TO NATIONAL FINALS

COLUMBIA, SC….The Abbeville High School FFA Dairy Foods team took top honors in the state competition held in Columbia, SC, recently, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA Association.

Team members Bryan Glace, Brianna Noblin, Casey Powell and Devan Herron along with Fred Raines, Agricultural Education Instructor and FFA advisor at Abbeville High School, were awarded expense-paid trips to compete in the National Dairy Foods Career Development Event Finals to be held in conjunction with the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, this fall. Brianna Noblin was the high individual scorer and Devan Herron was the second high individual scorer in the state competition.

Clemson University Agricultural Education senior Chris Hodge of Donalds, SC, who is practice teaching at Abbeville High School under the supervision of Mr. Raines, assisted in preparing the state champion team.

Clover High School FFA team members Skylar McMackin, Devin Cathey, Angie Stone and Jann Robinson, the third high scorer, claimed the State Runner-Up title. Carrie C. Bolin, Agricultural Education Instructor at Clover, is the FFA advisor.

York FFA team members Mason Blair, Katylin Rogers, Lesley Barton and Hannah Gourley took third place honors in the state competition. They were coached by Frank Sandifer, Agricultural Education Instructor and FFA advisor at the Floyd D. Johnson Technology Center.

“The study of dairy products is a major part of the Food Science and Nutrition curriculum offered by some Agricultural Education departments in secondary schools throughout the state,” Mr. Parris said.

Co-sponsored by the Clemson University Spring Dairy Show and the South Carolina FFA Association, the Dairy Foods competition is a special project of the South Carolina FFA Foundation.

The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through Agricultural Education.
