Stevie Silas and Tracie Morgan.THURMOND FFA TEAM TO COMPETE IN NATIONAL FINALS
COLUMBIA, SC…The Strom Thurmond Technology Center FFA Nursery-Landscape Team took first place honors in the state finals held recently at Spartanburg Community College, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA organization.
Team members Parker Northrop, the high scorer in the competition; Angel Henderson, third high scorer; Stevie Silas and Tracie Morgan were awarded expense-paid trips to the 2008 National FFA Convention to participate in the National Nursery-Landscape Finals. They were coached by Cary Thompson who is practicing teaching at the Thurmond Agricultural Education Department this semester. Dan Henderson and Hugh Bland are the Agricultural Education Instructors at the Center.
Anderson District I & II Technology Center students Jonathan McClain; Timothy Knauer, second high scorer; Neal Norris and Jessica Nimmons were named the State Runner-Up team. They were coached by Audie Green, Agricultural Education Instructor at the Center.
Aiken County Technology Center team members Osiel Delgadillo, Patrick Boatwright and Cameron Clark came in third in the state event. They were coached by Kevin Sox, Agricultural Education Instructor at the Center.
Spartanburg Community College Horticulture Department Head Jason Bagwell, and Instructors Kevin Parris and Doug McAbee, planned and coordinated the event, They were assisted by Clemson University Agricultural Education administrative staff Billy Keels and Steve Sanderson. State FFA Vice President William Nelson of Clinton, SC, also assisted.
The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through Agricultural Education.
