SALUDA FFA AWARDS BANQUET A GREAT SUCCESS
The Saluda High School FFA Chapter held its Awards and Recognition Banquet recently, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA organization.
“Chapter President Josh Nicholson presided at the event which was highlighted by a delicious dinner featuring quail raised by students in the Animal Science and Small Animal Care classes.” Parris said.
State FFA Vice Presidents Desiree Kenneer of Indian Land and William Nelson of Laurens were the keynote speakers.
State Representative Marion Frye of Leesville, subcommittee chairman of the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, was also a special guest.

Honorary FFA Chapter Degrees were awarded to Ralph Shealy, editor of the Saluda Standard Sentinel; Russell Quattlebaum, building construction instructor at Saluda High; and Linder Nicholson, grandmother of chapter president Josh Nicholson.
First year Agricultural Education student Gabe Cecil was recipient of the Star FFA Greenhand Award. Natalie Proctor was recognized as the outstanding sophomore member. Kristen Gentry was named the Outstanding junior member and Josh Nicholson received the outstanding senior award.
New officers elected for school year 2008-09 are Kristen Gentry, president; Natalie Proctor, vice president; Heather Riggs, secretary; Ben Bedenbaugh, treasurer; Gabe Cecil, reporter; Danelle Heath, sentinel; and Jacob Edwards, chaplain. Amanda Nichols, Agricultural Education Instructor at Saluda High, serves as the FFA advisor.
The mission of the FFA is make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through Agricultural Education.
