SKELTON CAREER CENTER PRESENTS FFA AWARDS
EASLEY, SC….The B. J. Skelton Career Center FFA Chapter held its annual Recognition Banquet and Awards Program on March 27 in the Fellowship Hall of the Pickens First Baptist Church, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA organization.
“More than 200 attended the inspiring event including FFA members, agricultural educators, school administrators, parents and sponsors,” Mr. Parris said. “The FFA officers did a superb job carrying out their responsibilities to make the program informative and successful,” he added.
Caitlin Raines, president of the B.J. Skelton Career Center FFA Chapter, welcomes State FFA Secretary Hunter Cooper who was the keynote speaker.The keynote speaker was Hunter Cooper of Calhoun Falls, SC, State Secretary of the SC FFA Association. He challenged the students to take full advantage of the numerous opportunities available to them through the FFA as they prepare for college and a career in the science, business or technology of agriculture.
Larry Raines, Louise Watson and Tim and Kay Hiott were presented the prestigious Honorary FFA Chapter Degree for their outstanding support of the local chapter. Jack Watson received the award on behalf of his mother who could not attend due to recent surgery.
Jessica Mitchell was presented the Star Chapter Award and Julie Nowaczck received the Star Greenhand Award.
Students recognized as the Outstanding FFA Members by grade were Ashley Silvers, 9 th grade; Samantha Knox, 10th grade; Aaron Porter, 11th grade; and Angelia Knox, 12th grade.
Finalists in the Exemplary FFA Member Award were Caitlin Raines, Emilee Barnes, Angelia Knox, Josh LaBrecque, Ben Dobson, Tony LaBrecque and Aaron Porter. Caitlin Raines, president of the chapter, was named winner of the Exemplary FFA Member Award.
In addition to being members of the SC FFA Association, B.J. Skelton Career Center Agricultural Education students are affiliated with the National FFA Organization which has more than 500,000 member in 7500 chapters representing every state, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
FFA advisors at the Center are Steve McCannon, Abbie Piotrowsky and David Jensen.
The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
