COLUMBIA, SC….Cory Watt, a student at Crescent High School, was awarded a $2500 scholarship by the South Carolina Farm Bureau at the conclusion of the Junior Beef Cattle Show held in conjunction with the recent State Fair in Columbia.
“Cory’s selection for the scholarship was based on a written examination, his demonstrated skill in showing beef cattle and overall knowledge of the beef industry,” said John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA organization.
Dr. Tom Dobbins, Program Coordinator of Agricultural Education at Clemson University and Superintendent of the Livestock Department of the SC State Fair, and Gary Goodman, General Manager of the SC State Fair, presented the scholarship check to Cory on behalf of the SC Farm Bureau.
“One of South Carolina’s outstanding FFA members, Cory has an enviable record of accomplishment in the production and showing of top quality beef cattle,” Parris added. He is the son of Jody and Rebecca Watt of Iva, SC.
The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through Agricultural Education.
