BRANCHVILLE FFA MEMBERS MEET US SECRETARY OF AGRICULTURE

Branchville FFA members Hyreia Edgerton, Danielle Edwards and Katie Pruett along with FFA Advisor Pat Black met with US Secretary of Agriculture Ed Schafer during the recent National FFA Convention held in Indianapolis, Indiana.

“The Secretary was in Indianapolis to address the National FFA Convention which is the largest gathering of young people involved in agriculture in the nation,” said John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA organization. Following his address to the delegates, the Secretary visited the National FFA Agricultural Career Show of 1300-plus exhibits and held a press conference at the USDA display.

FFA member Hyreia Edgerton, an international exchange student from Germany who is attending Branchville High School, was thrilled to meet the US Secretary of Agriculture as were the other students from Branchville.

As an excited participant in the national event, Hyreia marveled at the sea of blue and gold jackets, bright smiles and general camaraderie among the more than 50,000 FFA members in attendance representing every state in the union, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

Mr. Black said Hyreia’s attendance at the National FFA Convention and meeting with the US Secretary of Agriculture will be a major highlight of her experience in the Branchville community, our state and the nation.

The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agriculture education.
