SOUTH CAROLINA FFA CENTER RENOVATIONS DEDICATED

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC….A recent ceremony to dedicate the renovations at the South Carolina FFA Center in North Myrtle Beach was led by State Representative William D. Witherspoon of Conway who serves as chairman of the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee.

The ceremony was presided over by Harry DuBose, Agricultural Educator at Carolina Forest High School in Myrtle Beach and president of the South Carolina Agricultural Educators Association. Others in attendance included the state FFA officers, state FFA organization staff, agricultural educators, representatives of the press and Clemson University agricultural education administrators.

Representative Witherspoon secured $100,000 from the Competitive Grants Program of the State Budget and Control Board utilizing a proposal prepared and submitted by John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA organization.

The raising of the flag is a long standing tradition at the SC FFA Center.

The funds were used to replace the roof and floor of the dining hall and replace the floor and light fixtures in the gymnasium.

Agricultural Educators and students who have used the center this summer are thrilled with the improvements.

The center, opened in 1957 under the direction of H. C. Edens, was a state of the art facility at that time and has been used to train and inspire thousands of South Carolina’s FFA members over these fifty one years.

Zane Bryant, resident director of the center, is all smiles when he discusses the improvements the competitive grant funds have made for the benefit of all who utilize the facilities. He anticipates a significant increase in the use of the center as a result of the renovations.

State President Flint Holbrook, Representative Witherspoon, and SCAAE President Harry DuBose share a relaxing moment at the SC FFA Center.
