TOP FFA CHAPTERS RECEIVE GOVERNOR’S CITATION
Three Gold Emblem FFA chapters in South Carolina were named recipients of the Governor’s Citation of Accomplishment at a special ceremony during the recent State FFA Convention at Clemson University, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA organization.
The Barnwell County Career Center, under the direction of Agricultural Educator Mindy Sandifer, received a citation for its superb accomplishments in community development. The Calhoun Falls High School Chapter, led by Agricultural Educator Calvert Sherard, was awarded a citation for its impressive achievements in the chapter development category and the Manning Chapter, guided by Agricultural Educator Michael Haynes, received a citation for its outstanding success in student development.
The citations were presented by Larry Rogers of Columbia, an official with the USDA Farm Service Agency which sponsors the FFA Chapter Awards and Recognition Program. Tom Walker, executive director of the SC Rural Rehabilitation Corporation which is a co-sponsor of the recognition program in South Carolina, presented each of the three chapters a check for $1000 in recognition of their accomplishments. Six other Gold Emblem chapters recognized during the ceremony were Abbeville, Aiken, Anderson, Crescent, B.J.Skelton and McBee.
Chapters recognized with the Silver Emblem award included Andrew Jackson, Belton-Honea Path, Carolina Forest, Central, Lakewood, Loris, R.D. Anderson ATC,Union CCTC, Wagener-Salley, Walhalla and West Oak.
The Bronze Emblem Chapter award was presented to Anderson 1 & 2 Career Center, Aynor, Blacksburg, Blythewood, Cherokee Technology Center, Clover, Edisto, Hillcrest, Johnsonville, Latta, Midland Valley, Sumter Career Center and Ware Shoals.
