TO DECORATE GOVERNOR’S MANSIONCOLUMBIA, SC….Lexington Technology Center FFA members continued their annual tradition of providing poinsettias to decorate the Governor’s Mansion for the Christmas Season when they presented the beautiful plants to First Lady Jenny Sanford on Monday, December 1, 2008.
The poinsettias were grown by the students in the Lexington Technology Center’s state-of-the art greenhouse facility as part of their comprehensive training in Horticulture and Greenhouse Operation.
Agricultural Education and Horticulture Instructor Tommy Harmon is the FFA advisor at the Center. Suzette Sharpe is president of the agricultural student organization.
“The production of poinsettias is considered a part of the Green Industry which is among the fastest growing segments of South Carolina agriculture,” said John W. Parris, a spokesman for the SC FFA Association. “The Lexington Technology Center has one of the outstanding Green Industry Education Programs in the nation under the leadership of Mr. Harmon,” he added.
