ANDERSON I & II TECHNOLOGY CENTER FFA TEAM IN NATIONAL FINALS

COLUMBIA, SC….The Anderson I & II Technology Center FFA Poultry Evaluation team took first place honors in the State Finals held in conjunction with the State FFA Convention at Clemson University, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA organization.

Team members Tom Hansen, Timmy Knauer, Neal Norris, Crystal Keaton and Cameron Durham along with FFA advisor Steve McGaha, Agricultural Education Instructor at the center, were awarded expense-paid trips to the 2008 National FFA Convention to compete in the National Finals. Timmy Knauer was the high individual scorer in the state competition.

Abbeville students Krystal Collins, Adrienne Ballenger, Jennifer Haynie and Lauren Ashley were named the state runner-up team. They were coached by FFA advisor Fred Raines, Agricultural Education Instructor at Abbeville High School.

Third place honors went to Woodmont High School FFA team members Terry Richardson, Dillon Meyers, Travis Roberts and Brandon Moore. They were coached by FFA advisor Matt Rollins, Agricultural Education Instructor at the high school.

“A number of agricultural education departments in secondary schools include Poultry Science in their curriculum because of its importance to South Carolina’s economy,” Parris said. “Broiler production is the number one agricultural commodity in the state and accounts for more than 20 percent of the total farm income,” he added..
