GRAY IS STATE FFA STAR IN AGRICULTURAL PLACEMENT

COLUMBIA, SC….Jonathan Gray of Barnwell was named the State FFA Star in Agricultural Placement by the South Carolina FFA Association during a recent ceremony at Clemson University, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA organization. He was awarded an expense paid trip to the 2008 National FFA Convention by the SC FFA Foundation.

“This the highest award presented by the State FFA Organization to a member who is activity involved in agricultural placement as a major part of his supervised agricultural experience program.” Parris said. “Only one South Carolina student may receive this prestigious award in any given year,” he added.

During the years he has was an Agricultural Education student and FFA member at the Barnwell County Career Center, Jonathan has was employed by Steve Sandifer and Sons Farm, the Edisto Research and Education Center and the US Forest Service. He is currently employed by the SC Department of Natural Resources Department..

Jonathan who served as president of the local FFA chapter was awarded a scholarship from the New Ellenton Agricultural Club and another from the SC Young Farmer and Agribusiness Association..

A recipient of the coveted State FFA Degree and state winner of the FFA Forest Management Proficiency Award, Jonathan will enter Clemson University this fall to major in Forestry..

Jonathan is the son of John E. Jr. and Tina Gray of Barnwell. His FFA advisor is Mindy Sandifer, Agricultural Education Instructor at the Center.

The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through Agricultural Education.
