SOX IS STATE FFA STAR FARMER

COLUMBIA, SC…Ashley Sox of Pelion was named the State FFA Star Farmer by the South Carolina FFA Association during a recent ceremony at Clemson University, according to John W. Parris, state director of the SC FFA organization.

“This is the highest award presented to an FFA member who is actively engaged in farming by the State FFA organization,” Parris said. “Only one student in South Carolina may receive this prestigious honor each year,” he added.

A 2008 graduate of Pelion High School where she received the FFA chapter’s Outstanding Senior Award, Ashley is the co-owner of Dogwood Farms. She currently owns 25 head of registered Brangus cattle valued at more than $50,000. One of her Brangus bulls was among the highest selling animals at the Camp Colley Brangus Bull Sate in Alabama in 2007 and showed the Grand Champion Brangus Bull in the Florida State Fair. She also sold the highest priced animal in the South Carolina State Fair dairy heifer sale.

As the State FFA Star Farmer, Ashley was awarded an expense-paid trip to the 2008 National FFA Convention by the South Carolina Cooperative Council in concert with the SC FFA Foundation.

Ashley is the daughter of Richard and Linda Sox of Pelion. Her FFA advisor is Frank R. Stover, agricultural education instructor at Pelion High School.

“The Pelion FFA Chapter has had the State FFA Star Farmer for the past two years,” Parris said.

The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through Agricultural Education.
