COLUMBIA, SC….The Wagener-Salley High School FFA Agricultural Mechanization team took top state honors in the recent state finals held in Laurens, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA Organization.
Team members Josh Yon, Ethan Busbee, Corey Clayton and Brandon Medlin along with Allen Williams, Agricultural Education instructor and FFA advisor at Wagener- Salley High School, were awarded expense-paid trips by the SC FFA Foundation to compete in the national finals during the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, later this year. Josh Yon had the highest individual score and Ethan Busbee was the third high individual scorer in the state competition.
York FFA members Thomas Dunlap, Ethan Settlemyer, Kelly Howell and Holly Canipe were named the Runner-Up team in the finals, They were coached by Frank Sandifer, Agricultural Education instructor and FFA advisor at the Floyd D. Johnson Technology Center in York, SC.

They were coached by Stacey Bazen, Agricultural Education instructor and FFA advisor at Aynor High School.
Edisto FFA member Cody Bishop was the second high individual scorer in the state competition. He was coached by Barry Hawkins, Agricultural Education instructor and FFA advisor at Edisto High School.
“Agricultural Mechanization is a major component in the Agricultural Education curriculum at many secondary schools across the state,” Parris said. “This event is among the most comprehensive and competitive career development activities conducted by the SC FFA Association each year,” he added.
The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through Agricultural Education.
