ABBEVILLE FFA AGRONOMY TEAM IN NATIONAL FINALS

COLUMBIA, SC….The Abbeville High School FFA Agronomy team took first place honors in the state finals held in Columbia, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA organization.

“Team members Brittany Sumner, Brianna Noblin, Casey Powell and Kayla Price along with FFA Advisor Fred Raines were awarded expense-paid trips by the SC FFA Foundation to compete in the national finals during the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, later this year,” Parris said. “Brittany Sumner was the high individual scorer and Brianna Noblin was the second high scorer in the state event,” he added.

Amy Williams, a Clemson University senior in Agricultural Education who did her practice teaching at Abbeville High this spring under the supervision of Mr. Raines, assisted in coaching the state champion team.

Green Sea-Floyds High School students Dylan Collins, Dylan Roberts, Zachary Fairfax and Anthony Owens were named the State Runner-Up team. Dylan Collins had the third high individual score and Zachary Fairfax took the fourth high score honors. They were coached by Lee Mayfield, Agricultural Educator and FFA advisor at the school.

McBee FFA members Caleb Winburn, Bill Herrington, Alec Powell and Calin Jowers took third place honors in the state finals. They were coached by Pat Earle, Agricultural Education instructor and FFA advisor at McBee.

The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through Agricultural Education.
