Chapter President Emmanuel Bankston, one of two SC Farm Bureau Youth Agricultural Ambassadors, was the recipient of the prestigious Dekalb Agricultural Accomplishment Award for FFA members sponsored by Monsanto.
A major FFA award known as the Chapter Degree was presented to John Brown and Andrew Williams. Andrew could not be present at the banquet because of a conflict. This award is presented to outstanding students who have two or more years of successful participation in the FFA.
The Greenhand Degree, an award presented to students who have excelled in the FFA during their first year in agricultural education courses, was presented to Tommy Anderson, Michael Trezevant and Brandon Yaw. Two others, Nicholas Shoemaker and Ossiel Mendez, were also named recipients of the award but could not be present because of other commitments.
The banquet speaker was State FFA Vice President Will Amick of Lexington. He used an informative and impressive power-point presentation to illustrate the excitement experienced on a recent sixteen day trip to the Peoples Republic of China as a representative of the National FFA Organization to attend an International Agricultural Leadership Seminar and tour the country.

Local school officials in attendance at the banquet were Dr. Catherine Smith, Beaufort County CATE coordinator; Ann Horry, Human Relations Associate; Eddie Ogden, interim director of the Academy; Mander Givens, Finance Manager, Melinda Vaigneur, secretary; and Erin Moore, culinary arts instructor, whose students prepared and served a delicious dinner.
“The educational leaders and public in general in the Beaufort-Jasper area should take pride in the success of the agricultural education program at the center as underscored by the superb accomplishments of its FFA members. That progress is a direct result of the positive guidance provided by Robin Beasley, agricultural education instructor and FFA advisor,” Parris said.
