MANNING, SC…State Senator Clementa C. Pinckney of Ridgeland, SC, recently addressed the Manning High School student body as guest of the Manning FFA Chapter, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA organization.
Senator Pinckney, a member of the Senate Finance Committee, was in Manning to lead in the local celebration of National FFA Week being observed by agricultural education students in every state, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
A special musical program by the 20 member FFA Chorus and FFA orchestra highlighted the opening of the impressive ceremony which included officer presentations on the successful activities of South Carolina’s largest chapter.
The FFA, originally known as the Future Farmers of America when it was established in 1928, has expanded its membership outreach to include students who are interested in one of the more than 300 career opportunities in the science, business or technology of agriculture.
The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
Michael Haynes, agricultural education instructor at Manning High School, serves as the local FFA advisor.
