LEXINGTON FFA NURSERY-LANDSCAPE TEAM TO
COMPETE IN NATIONAL FINALS

COLUMBIA, SC…The Lexington Technology Center FFA Nursery-Landscape team took top honors in the state finals held recently at Spartanburg Community College, according to John W. Parris, state director public affairs with the SC FFA organization.

Team members Amanda Kyzer, Dillin Price, Blaine Clarkson and Tim Roark along with team coach Tommy Harmon, Agricultural Education instructor and FFA advisor at the Center, were awarded expense-paid trips to attend the National FFA Convention by the SC FFA Foundation to compete in the National Finals. Dillin Price was the third high scorer and Amanda Kyzer was the fourth high scorer in the state Horticulture event.

Anderson I & II Technology Center team members Timmy Knauer, Crystal Keaton and Quinn Hudson took the State Runner-up title. Timmy Knauer was the high individual scorer in the overall competition. They were coached by Steve McGaha, agricultural education instructor and FFA advisor at the Center.

Pendleton High School team members Troy Dobbins, Tessa Weatherly, Katelyn McIntire and Olivia Schaffer placed third in the state competition. Tessa Weatherly was the second high individual scorer in the overall event. The team was coached by Abbie Piotrowsky and Josh Murdock, agricultural education instructors and FFA advisors at Pendleton High. Clemson University senior Lindsey Arnold, an agricultural education major, assisted in coaching the team. She is practice teaching at Pendleton under the supervision of Mr. Murdock and Ms. Piotrowsky.

The event was planned and coordinated by Spartanburg Community College Horticulture faculty Jason Bagwell, department head; and Kevin Parris, instructor and coordinator of the campus Arboretum. Steve Sanderson, associate state director of agricultural education with Clemson University, assisted along with Clemson University agricultural education majors Brandi Laws, Hannah King and Laura Jane Burdette. State FFA Vice President Will Amick from Lexington also assisted.

The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through Agricultural Education.
