CRESCENT FFA TRACTOR TEAM TAKES TOP STATE HONORS
COLUMBIA, SC….The Crescent High School FFA Tractor Operation and Safety Team took first place honors in the State Finals held in Columbia, SC, recently, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA organization.
Team members Colby Trotter, Cory Bradford, Cory Watt and Perry Loftis successfully outscored other teams from throughout the state. Colby Trotter was the high individual scorer and Cory Watt was the third high individual scorer in the state competition. They were coached by Tim Keown, Agricultural Education instructor and an FFA advisor at Crescent High School.
Latta FFA members Quinton Gardner, Taylor Brigman and Jeffrey Lane made up the State Runner-Up team. They were coached by Aaron Miles, Agricultural Education instructor and FFA advisor at Latta High School.
Hillcrest FFA members Kyle Lane, Jason Phillips, Chris Falls and Brian Hiller took third place honors in the state event. They were coached by Mark Earle, Agricultural Education instructor and an FFA advisor at Hillcrest High School. Chris Falls was the second high individual scorer in the competition.
“The primary objective of this agricultural engineering-related competition is designed to provide FFA members an opportunity to demonstrate their skill in operating a tractor with implement attached while practicing appropriate safety measures,” Mr. Parris said. “Teaching students to properly operate a tractor in a safe manner is a vital part of the agricultural engineering curriculum at Crescent High School and many other Agricultural Education departments in secondary schools across South Carolina,” he added.
The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through Agricultural Education.
