HOLBROOK ADDRESSES AGRICULTURALISTS

PIEDMONT, SC…..State FFA President K. Flint Holbrook of Clover, SC, recently addressed an overflow crowd of Woodmont High School Young Farmer and Agribusiness members and guests on the Production and Use of Biodiesel, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs for the SC FFA organization. His presentation included the production of a batch of biodiesel from waste cooking oil and demonstrating how much cleaner it burned than regular diesel fuel.

At eighteen years of age and a senior at Clover High School, Holbrook is recognized nationally as a very knowledgeable individual on the subject of alternative fuels. He has been featured on the National RFD-TV Satellite Network as well as TV stations in South Carolina and by newspapers and magazines. He has addressed a number of state, regional and national conferences over the last two years.

Holbrook was recently selected as an Outstanding Young Entrepreneur in the state by the South Carolina Council on Economic Education. As a result of this honor, he was interviewed by the SC ETV Network for development of a program which was distributed to all the high schools in South Carolina for use in classes.

A national winner in two Alternative Fuels-related FFA Proficiency Awards, Holbrook was also named a semi-finalist in the National FFA Extemporaneous Speaking competition last fall.

Holbrook plans to pursue an Alternative Fuels major upon entering college this fall. He has been accepted for admission to Oklahoma State University, the University of Kentucky, the University of Tennessee, North Carolina State University and Clemson University.

The program on Alternative Fuels was planned and coordinated by Clemson University Agricultural Education senior Ryan Settle of Inman, SC, who is practice teaching at Woodmont High School under the supervision of Agricultural Educator Barry Burdette.
