FFA MEMBERS PARTICIPATE IN CLEMSON AG TAILGATE EVENT

Hundreds of FFA members, advisors, parents and other supporters from throughout South Carolina, participated in Clemson University’s College of Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences Ag Tailgate on September 19, 2009, which was also designated as FFA Day in recognition of the hundreds of outstanding agricultural education students in attendance for the event and the Clemson-Boston College football game.

The event, staged in the Fike Recreation Center on the Clemson campus, was co-sponsored by the Clemson University Agricultural Alumni Board of Directors and private financial contributors. Attractive and informative departmental and club displays highlighted the agriculture and natural resource majors available at Clemson. Dr. Tom Scott, Dean of the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences, joined in welcoming the students and guests to Clemson University.

State FFA President Kerry Lee Cox of Latta and State Vice President Emanuel Bankston of Beaufort, presented President and Mrs. Jim Barker a beautiful gift basket of agricultural products and a container of fresh, tasty peaches on behalf of McLeod Farms of McBee, SC, the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences and the SC FFA Association. Participants in the standing-room only event enjoyed an early lunch prior to the noon kick-off of the football game in Memorial Stadium.

Kerry Lee Cox joined John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA organization, in the President’s Box hosted by President and Mrs. Jim Barker during the game which was won by Clemson.

South Carolina Agricultural Education instructors Mindy Sandifer, Barnwell County Career Center, and Pat Black, Branchville High School, along with John W. Parris of Columbia, serve as members of Clemson University’s National Agricultural Alumni Board of Directors. Mr. Black and Mr. Parris are charter members of the board and former chairmen. W. Pat Earle, Agricultural Education instructor at McBee, is a former member and chairman of the board. Mrs. Sandifer is serving as secretary to the board at the present time.
