ALEXANDER PARTICIPATES IN SC APPLE FESTIVAL EVENT
Christina L. Alexander, the new agricultural education instructor at Seneca High School, attended the South Carolina Apple Festival Dignitaries Luncheon in Westminster on Friday, September 11, as a guest of John W. Parris, state director of public affairs for Agricultural Education. The luncheon, held in the Westminster Baptist Church Social Hall, is a special project of the Westminster Rotary Club.
Mrs. Alexander was welcomed to the event by US Congressman and FFA alumnus Gresham Barrett, State Senator and FFA alumnus Thomas C. Alexander and a number of other dignitaries. She was introduced at the luncheon by State Representative Bill Sandifer of Seneca.
Dick Mangrum, news director of the Golden Corner’s Radio Station, WGOG FM, Walhalla, SC, interviewed Mrs. Alexander prior to the luncheon. The interview was released for the station’s weekend news reports heard in portions of three states. She also met with a reporter from the Clemson-Seneca Daily Journal/Messenger newspaper to schedule an interview about her new role as an agricultural educator in Seneca.
Mrs. Alexander, a graduate of Clemson University with a BS degree in Agricultural Education, is pursuing a Master’s in Agricultural Education. While at Clemson, she made the Dean’s List and the President’s List for academic achievement.
After graduating in December 2007, Mrs. Alexander worked as a Research Associate with the Agricultural and Biological Engineering Department at Clemson University on a National Science Foundation Grant to assist with the development of a biosystems technology curriculum for secondary school agricultural education programs in South Carolina. She also served as a summer intern with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service in 2005-06.
R.T. Harris, a son of FFA alumnus Robert Harris and grandson of the late R. Theo Harris, a retired agricultural educator in Oconee County, serves as president of the Westminster Rotary Club.
The luncheon speaker was Michael Couick of Columbia, president and chief executive officer of the Electric Cooperatives of South Carolina.
