BANKSTON ON NATIONAL FFA NOMINATING COMMITTEE

COLUMBIA, SC…State FFA Vice President Emmanuel Bankston of Beaufort has been named to the National FFA Nominating Committee to select the 2009-2010 National FFA Officer team during the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, October 21-24, 2009, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA organization. “Emmanuel was one of nine state FFA officers from throughout the nation chosen by the National FFA Officer team for this challenging responsibility,” Parris said.

Emmanuel will arrive in Indianapolis, Indiana, on October 15 to begin training for his service on the committee. The actual nomination process will begin on Sunday, October 18, and conclude on Friday, October 23. The new National FFA Officers selected by Emmanuel and his fellow committee members to lead the 507,000-member national student agricultural education organization will be announced at the closing session of the National FFA Convention on Saturday afternoon, October 24.

A freshman at Clemson University majoring in Agricultural Education, Emmanuel is a 2009 graduate of Battery Creek High School in Beaufort. In addition to serving as FFA chapter president at the Beaufort-Jasper Academy for Career Excellence, he was the recipient of the prestigious DeKalb-sponsored FFA Agricultural Accomplishment Award, named state winner of the FFA-sponsored Forest Management and Products Proficiency Award and chosen as a 2009 South Carolina Farm Bureau Federation Youth Ambassador.

The son of Willie and Carolyn Huff of Beaufort, Emmanuel’s Agricultural Education instructor and FFA advisor is Robin Beasley, a member of the faculty at the Academy.

“Emmanuel’s selection for this significant national agricultural leadership responsibility is a notable laurel to come to him, his family, Beaufort County, Clemson University and the SC FFA Association,” Parris emphasized .
