CAROLINA FOREST FFA CHAPTER WINS TOP STATE AWARD

COLUMBIA, SC…The Carolina Forest High School FFA Chapter was named the Outstanding Community Development program in South Carolina for 2009 at a special ceremony during the state FFA convention at Clemson University recently, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA organization. “Only one chapter in the state is eligible to receive this prestigious award each year,” Parris said.

In recognition of this achievement, the chapter was presented the Governor’s Citation of Accomplishment by Larry Rogers, an official with the USDA Farm Service Agency, sponsors of the FFA Chapter Awards and Recognition Program.

Additionally, William Stanley, chairman of the Rural Rehabilitation Corporation and Wesley Harris, secretary of the organization, presented chapter president Robbie Pihota and chapter advisor Harry M. DuBose a check for $1000 to defray expenses of delegates to attend the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, later this year. The chapter is now in competition for the National Community Development award which will be announced later this year.

The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through Agricultural Education.
