COLUMBIA, SC…The Midland Valley High School FFA Chapter was named the Outstanding Student Development program in South Carolina for 2009 at a special ceremony during the recent state FFA convention at Clemson University, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA organization. “Only Gold Emblem chapters are eligible to compete for this prestigious honor,” Parris said.
In recognition of this achievement, the chapter was presented the Governor’s Citation of Accomplishment by Larry Rogers, and official with the USDA Farm Service Agency, sponsor of the FFA Chapter Awards and Recognition program.
Additionally, William Stanley, chairman of the Rural Rehabilitation Corporation and Wesley Harris, secretary of the organization, presented chapter officer Devon Puckett and chapter advisor Jeremy Brooks a check for $1000 to defray their expenses to attend the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, in October. The chapter is now in competition for the National Student Development award to be announced later this year.
The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
