CLEMSON, SC…State Senator Daniel B. Verdin III and State Representative Jeffrey D. Duncan both of Laurens were presented the prestigious Honorary State FFA Degree by the SC FFA Association at a special ceremony held recently on the Clemson University campus, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs for Agricultural Education in South Carolina.
“This is the highest award available to a friend and supporter of the FFA at the state level,” Parris said. “These distinguished agriculturalists who serve so effectively in major leadership positions the SC General Assembly are an inspiration to the thousands of FFA members across our state,” he added.
Senator Verdin serves as chairman of the Senate Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee and Representative Duncan chairs the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee.
The SC FFA organization is affiliated with the 507,000-member national association of students enrolled in agricultural education courses in secondary schools, community colleges or universities. Originally established in 1928 as an organization for high school boys who planned to become farmers, the FFA is recognized today as a major force in preparing male and female students in rural, urban and sub-urban communities for one of the more than 300 career opportunities in the science, business or technology of agribusiness, the nation’s number one industry. Additionally, the FFA is known and respected as the premier agricultural leadership training program for young people throughout the nation.
“The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through Agricultural Education,” Parris emphasized.
