CLOVER FFA DAIRY TEAM TAKES TOP STATE HONORS

CLEMSON, SC…Clover High School FFA Dairy Animal Evaluation team members Beka Driscoll. Leslie McGill, Destiny Butler and Lauren McGill took first place honors in the State Finals held at the T. Ed Garrison Livestock Center on the Clemson University campus, Friday, March 5, 2010, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA organization. The team was coached by Carrie C. Bolin, Agricultural Education instructor and FFA advisor at Clover High School.

“The students and Mrs. Bolin were awarded expense-paid trips to the National FFA Convention to be held in Indianapolis, Indiana, in October, where they will compete in the National Dairy Animal Evaluation Finals,” Mr. Parris said.

Crescent High School team members Rosie Russo, Melissa Russo, Jennifer Cocchia, Evan Bowman, and Hank Simpson were named State Runner-up in the competition. The team was coached by Roger Estridge, an Agricultural Education and FFA advisor at the high school.

Saluda High School team members Sarah Gunter, Clay Shealy, Heather Riggs and Tori Crouch took third place honors in the event. They were coached by Amanda Nichols, Agricultural Education instructor and FFA advisor at the high school.

Aubrey Dixon, a member of the Laurens team, took the first place high individual scoring honors. Carolina Forest team member Ashley Porter was Runner-up in that category and Lauren McGill, a member of the Clover team, was the third high individual scorer.

The state competition is sponsored annually by the Clemson University Dairy Expo and the SC FFA Foundation.

The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through Agricultural Education.
