MCBEE, SC….E. B. Earle, a legendary agricultural educator of McBee, SC, was recently honored by the Chesterfield County School Board who by unanimous vote named the Agricultural Education complex at McBee High School the “ E.B. Earle Agriculture Center”. The announcement was made by School District Superintendent Dr. John E. Williams at the annual McBee FFA Member Recognition Reception held at the high school.
Upon graduation from Clemson University, Mr. Earle, a native of Pickens County, came to McBee to teach Agricultural Education and serve as advisor to the FFA chapter.
He immediately began to inspire his students to achieve excellence in their Agricultural Education pursuits. Mr. Earle and his students soon became known and respected throughout the state and nation for their success in career development events such as Soil Identification and Land Treatment, Livestock Evaluation, Public Speaking, Agricultural Mechanics and more.
Mr. Earle received numerous awards over the years including Chesterfield County Teacher of the Year, the Outstanding Agricultural Educator in South Carolina, the Outstanding Conservation Educator in the state, named one of sixteen Outstanding Agricultural Educators in South Carolina in the twentieth century by the AGRI BIZ magazine and recognized as one of Clemson University’s top one hundred Centennial Agricultural Alumni.
Dr. John E. Williams “Throughout his fifty years of service to the Chesterfield County School District, Mr. Earle has participated in a host of projects that directly impact the quality of our students’ education,” Dr. Williams said. “Among the most remembered one was Mr. Earle’s role in securing approval by the SC General Assembly to require that twenty-five percent of the proceeds from government-owned land in the county be made available to the school district for general operations,” he added.
Since Mr. Earle’s retirement some years ago, the Agricultural Education program at McBee High School has been under the direction of his son, Pat Earle, who continues the impressive tradition of leading an FFA chapter that is recognized at the state and national level on a regular basis.
