SOUTH CAROLINA FFA CHAPTERS HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO PARTNER WITH THE AMERICAN RED CROSS IN HAITI DISASTER RELIEF PROJECT

Arrangements have been made by the SC FFA Office of Public Affairs with the Regional Office of the American Red Cross in Columbia, SC, for interested FFA chapters in South Carolina to voluntarily participate in the Haiti Disaster Relief Project by forwarding check(s) made payable to the American Red Cross and marked for the Haiti Disaster Relief Project from the chapter and/or friends and supporters. Individuals who join with the FFA chapters in making a contribution to the project will receive a tax letter from the American Red Cross mailed to the address on their check.

Red Cross officials recommend that checks from FFA chapters be mailed to the SC FFA Office of Public Affairs, 1401 Hampton Street, Columbia, SC 29201, for the purpose of compiling the total amount of contributions from FFA chapters throughout the state. Checks received will be recorded daily and delivered to the American Red Cross daily. The Red Cross does not have adequate staff to maintain a record of total funds contributed separately by entities of an organization such as FFA chapters.

The time frame for making contributions is open-ended but those FFA chapters who participate in the project up to February 24 will be appropriately recognized at the SC FFA-sponsored State Legislators Appreciation Day Luncheon to be held at the State Fair Grounds on Wednesday, February 24. Chapters participating after that date will also be recognized.

These arrangements were made for individual FFA chapter participation in the Haiti Disaster Relief Project as a direct result of interest expressed on the part of Agricultural Educators and FFA advisors and in consultation with the SC FFA Executive Secretary who supported the action.

This is a unique opportunity for FFA chapters to participate in a human relief project of international significance.
