CLEMSON, SC….The Pendleton High School FFA Livestock Evaluation Team took top honors in the State Finals held recently at the T. Ed Garrison Animal Science Arena on the Clemson University campus, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA organization.
Team members Savanna Gambrell, Nick Garland, Troy Dobbins and Lindsey Dobbins along with Pendleton FFA Advisor and team coach Blake Berry, were awarded expense-paid trips to the 2010 National FFA Convention by the SC FFA Foundation to compete in the National Livestock Evaluation Finals.

Clemson University Agricultural Education senior Chase Hope (at right) assisted in coaching the team.York team members Hannah Whitesides, Mary Hall, Henry Mitchell and Sara Ann Comer took State Runner-Up honors. Henry Mitchell was the high scoring individual and Mary Hall was the third high scorer in the state competition. They were coached by FFA Advisor Frank Sandifer, Agricultural Education instructor at the Floyd D. Johnson Technology Center, and Chase Hope, a Clemson University Agricultural Education senior who did his practice teaching in York under the supervision of Mr. Sandifer.
Chesterfield team members Rose Tolson, Jonathan Rivers, Katie Rivers, Luke White and Laura Robinson placed third in the state event. Jonathan Rivers was the fourth high scorer and Katie Rivers was the sixth high scorer in the state event. They were coached by FFA Advisor Gerald Hargett, Agricultural Education instructor at Chesterfield High School.
“The Livestock Evaluation competition is among the most scientifically challenging of all the career development events conducted by the SC FFA for Agri-science students,” Mr. Parris said.
The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through Agricultural Education.
