Nine McBee High School FFA members represented South Carolina at the recent National Young Farmer Education Association convention in Mobile, Alabama. They were accompanied by W. Pat Earle, local agricultural education instructor and FFA advisor. This is the third consecutive year that McBee students have been selected to attend the convention and participate in the youth programs.
Pat EarleThe McBee students were one of only two youth groups selected to compete with NYFEA members from throughout the country in the Agricultural Communication Awards Program. They were also provided an opportunity to learn the “ins and outs” of agriculture leadership by participating in a Young Agriculture Leadership Event (YALE) sponsored by John Deere. This activity allowed for extensive research of careers available in the agriculture industry.
In addition to the leadership activities, the students participated in tours of Alabama agriculture including a visit to the Mobile agriculture seaport, Auburn University Research Center, peanuts farms and other areas of interest.
Sponsors of the McBee students’ trip included the National Young Farmers Educational Institute, ArborOne Farm Credit, Chesterfield County School District and the McBee FFA Chapter.
