FORT MILL, SOUTH CAROLINA, FFA ALUMNI HOST
MCCALLUM RECOGNITION DINNER
An overflow crowd of Fort Mill FFA Alumni and guests gathered on January 26 to honor the memory of the late Harold M. McCallum, a long-time agricultural educator, FFA advisor and school administrator in Fort Mill Schools.
Fort Mill FFA Alumnus Murray White presided and reported that the Harold M. and Phoebe B. McCallum Scholarship Fund will increase the amount of each scholarship to $2000 and award two to local students in 2010. Mr. White serves as a member of the board of directors of the Foundation for Fort Mill Schools which administers the Scholarship Fund.
Pinckney Purcell of Atlanta, Georgia, a Fort Mill FFA alumnus, addressed the group and praised the late Mr. McCallum for his superb ability to inspire students. Mr. Purcell originated the idea for the scholarship program in l993 to honor Mr. and Mrs. McCallum for their lasting contributions to educational excellence in the Fort Mill area.
Honored guests included Mr. McCallum’s widow, Mrs. Pheobe McCallum of Rock Hill, and their daughter, Mrs. Francis M. Kritzer of Waukesha, Wisconsin.
Other special guests included Dr. and Mrs. James N. Epps, superintendent-elect of the Fort Mill School District; Fort Mill High School FFA Advisor Kristen Reinhardt and FFA officers Roy Epps, Alex Shafer, Harrison Potts, Kody Galloway, Mikey Griffo and Aaron Robinson; Nation Ford High School FFA Advisor Lee Petitgout and FFA officers Josh Brown, Morgan Nelms Peyton Skiles, Tony Peeler, Marissa Eastep and Alex Sandy; and John W. Parris, SC FFA public affairs director and state coordinator for the SC FFA Alumni Organization.
The FFA Alumni organization serves as the primary advocate of the FFA by supporting programs and activities, including scholarships, to make a positive difference in the lives of students enrolled in Agricultural Education.
