Meredith Walker crowned Miss South Carolina FFA

WALKER NAMED MISS SOUTH CAROLINA FFA

BATESBURG-LEESVILLE, SC…Meredith Walker, a senior at Union County High School and an active FFA member, was crowned Miss South Carolina FFA for 2010 at the Lexington County School District Three Fine Arts Center in Batesburg-Leesville on Friday evening, March 5.

Twenty-eight young ladies who are members of the FFA from throughout the state competed in the pageant which was sponsored by the Batesburg-Leesville FFA Chapter. Other finalists included: First Runner-up…Stephanie Johnson, a senior at T.L. Hanna High School; Second Runner-up…Mackenzie Mullikin, a junior at Pendleton High School; Third Runner-up…Chelsie Goodman, a senior at Ridge Spring-Monetta High School; and Fourth Runner-up…Julia Miller, a junior at Strom Thurmond High School. Miss Walker received a crown, a banner and a $500 scholarship provided by AgSouth Farm Credit to be used at the college of her choice.

Contestants were judged on their applications, personal interview and evening gown competition. The five finalists were required to answer an on-stage question to assist the judges in determining the new Miss South Carolina FFA. All finalists received plaques.

Miss Walker, an equine enthusiast, was the high scorer in the State FFA Equine Finals for two years and a member of the 2009 State Champion FFA Equine Evaluation Team which will compete in the National Finals in Indianapolis, Indiana, later this year.

Mrs. Annette Vaughan, an FFA advisor at the Union Career and Technology Center, accompanied Miss Walker to the Miss South Carolina FFA pageant.

Libby Hrlic-Templeton, advisor to the Batesburg-Leesville High School FFA, was in charge of the event and Ariel Fox, the 2009 Miss South Carolina FFA, served as Mistress of Ceremonies.
