Allison W. Honea presents check to Blake Berry.BERRY AWARDED GRANT BY SC FARM BUREAU
Blake Berry, an Agricultural Education instructor and FFA advisor at Pendleton High School, has received a grant from the SC Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers Program to use in establishing a raised bed garden on the school campus.
The Pendleton High School Agricultural Education Department emphasizes the importance of agriculture in all aspects of student life. To demonstrate this in a very special way, Mr. Berry plans to involve his AgriScience students in designing, installing and maintaining the unique garden which will highlight agronomic and vegetable crops common to the piedmont region of South Carolina.
The SC Farm Bureau Young Farmer and Rancher Program offers grants to teachers in public and private schools to teach students that agriculture is an integral part of their every day environment. The presentation of the grant check was made to Mr. Berry by SC Farm Bureau officials Allison Honea and Thompson Smith at a ceremony at the high school on Monday, February 1, 2010.
Mr. Berry, Ms. Honea and Mr. Smith are FFA alumni and former state FFA officers in South Carolina.
