Scott Croxton of Kershaw, a prominent farmer and agricultural leader, addressed the Andrew Jackson High School FFA-sponsored Farm-City Week Banquet on Thursday, November 18. Mr. Croxton, president of the Lancaster County Farm Bureau Board of Directors, also serves as a director of the Lynches River Electric Cooperative, a member of the Lancaster Cattlemen’s Association and a member of the Andrew Jackson High School Agricultural Education Department Advisory Committee.
Special guests in attendance in addition to FFA parents and family members included Mrs. Mary Berry, principal of Andrew Jackson High School; Scott Phillips, assistant principal at the school; Mrs. Karen W. Baxley, Relationship Manager with AgSouth Farm Credit, Rock Hill; Doug Barfield, retired agricultural educator and member of the Andrew Jackson High School Agricultural Education Advisory Committee, and his wife, Mrs. Lynne Barfield; and John W. Parris of Columbia, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA Association.
Ashli Young, agricultural education instructor at the high school, addressed the participants on the importance of the Farm-City Week partnership and thanked everyone for their superb support of Agricultural Education.
FFA officers Rynne Caldwell, president; Hailey Funderburk, secretary; Jordan Hinson,vice president; Alex Honeycutt, treasurer; Daniel Stover, reporter; and Ronnie Pllyler, sentinel; presented the traditional and impressive FFA Opening and Closing Ceremony.
A delicious dinner, co-sponsored by AgSouth Farm Credit of Rock Hill and prepared by parents and other friends of the FFA, was an excellent display of what farmers bring to the table every day and enjoyed by all.
The 2010 theme of National Farm-City Week was American Agriculture---A Growing Story.
