COLUMBIA, SC…Shaney Spires, a member of the Crescent High School FFA Chapter in Iva, SC, was awarded a $2500 college scholarship by the SC Farm Bureau Federation at the conclusion of the Junior Beef Cattle Show held in conjunction with the 2010 SC State Fair, reports John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA organization.
Crescent FFA Advisor Roger Estridge congratulates Shaney Spires on winning the SC Farm Bureau Junior Beef Scholarship during the SC State Fair.“Shaney’s selection for the scholarship was determined by a written examination on the beef industry, her beef animal showmanship skills and an interview with a beef cattle professional,” Parris said.
Roy Copelan, executive director of the SC Beef Council, presented the check to Shaney on behalf of the SC Farm Bureau during an awards ceremony at the fair.
Shaney, a tenth grade student at Crescent High School where she is active in the FFA, grows and successfully shows Polled Hereford beef cattle.
The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Shane Spires, Shaney’s FFA advisors are Roger Estridge and Tim Keown, Agricultural Education Instructors at Crescent High School.
