COLUMBIA, SC….Miriam R. Pflug, Vice President of AgSouth Farm Credit, ACA, of Spartanburg, SC, was awarded the Honorary American FFA Degree at the recent National FFA Convention held in Indianapolis, Indiana. The FFA, originally known as the Future Farmers of America, is an organization of students in secondary schools, technical colleges and universities preparing for one of the more than 300 career opportunities available to them in the science, business or technology of twenty first century agriculture.

“The Honorary American FFA Degree is the highest and most prestigious award presented to a select number of friends and supporters by the 523,000-member National FFA Organization,” said John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA Association. “The awards ceremony was televised live by the National RFD-TV Satellite Network which reaches more than 40 million homes in the United States,” he added.

Mrs. Pflug was joined at the National Convention by a delegation of 400 FFA members, Agricultural Education instructors and other guests from South Carolina. The convention attendance, highlighted by a sea-like expanse of traditional blue and gold jackets, set an all-time record of 54,942 representing all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

An employee of the Farm Credit System for 32 years, Mrs. Pflug presently serves as president of the SC Cooperative Council and on the President’s Council of the National Young Farmer Education Association.

A graduate of Columbia College and the American Bankers Association, Mrs. Pflug is a Certified Financial Marketing Professional.

Previously named recipient of the Honorary State FFA Degree, Mrs. Pflug has also been named Credit Professional of the Year by the Farm Credit System. She is a member and past president of the North Spartanburg Rotary Club and the Spartanburg Business and Professional Women.

Mrs. Pflug said, “I am deeply honored to receive this prestigious award and would like to thank Mr. John W. Parris and the SC FFA Association for nominating me for this distinguished honor. It is a true joy and privilege to support the FFA and the values for which the organization stands.”
