Perry Loftis, a rising senior at Crescent High School and president of the FFA chapter, was elected Governor of Palmetto Boys State in Columbia recently, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA organization. The announcement was made at a special ceremony at the State House on Friday, June 18, 2010.
Sponsored by the American Legion, Palmetto Boys State is a unique and exciting one week program designed to teach young men about government and the politics involved. The event was held June 13-19 at the University of South Carolina.
Perry is an outstanding member of the Crescent FFA Chapter as evidenced by the fact that he was selected State winner in the Specialty Crops Production Proficiency Award in 2009. He was also a member of the State Championship Tractor Operation and Safety Team the same year. Earlier this year he was recognized as Chapter Star Farmer and elected to serve as chapter president for school year 2010-11.
Perry is actively engaged in the production of quality tomatoes and other vegetables which he successfully markets locally. His goal is to become an approved Organic Vegetable Producer before enrolling in college.
The son of Shea and Julie Loftis of Starr, SC, Perry’s FFA advisors are Tim Keown and Roger Estridge, Agricultural Education instructors at Crescent High School.
