MANNING FFA HONORED FOR STATE ACCOMPLISHMENTS

MANNING, SC…Officials representing the USDA Farm Service Agency, the SC Rural Rehabilitation Corporation and the SC FFA Office of Public Affairs were at Manning High School recently for a special ceremony recognizing the Manning FFA Chapter. The event was coordinated by John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA organization and Michael Haynes, FFA advisor at Manning.

Larry Rogers, an official with the USDA Farm Service Agency that sponsors the National FFA Chapter Awards and Recognition Program, recognized the Manning FFA Chapter as recipient of the Governor’s Citation of Accomplishment in Community Development for 2010 and presented the framed document to FFA Advisor Mike Haynes and the FFA President Catelyn Anderson. An enlarged photo of the sponsors and the FFA representatives was also presented to the chapter for display in the school commons area.

Wesley Harris, secretary-treasurer of the SC Rural Rehabilitation Corporation, a co-sponsor of the FFA Chapter Recognition Program, presented Mr. Haynes and the chapter officers a check to $1000 to assist in defraying expenses for members to attend the National FFA Convention.

Among some of the highlights of the chapter’s accomplishments during the past year included: the largest FFA membership of any chapter in the state---a record they have held for 20 years; conducted a Parliamentary Procedure Workshop for a officials of a political party in another county; adopted families and provided gifts during the Holiday Season; developed a partnership with the Clarendon County Department of Social Services and WIS-TV Palmetto Project to assist families; and constructed a fitness trail for Manning Primary School with a grant secured by the FFA chapter.

The chapter was recognized during the recent National FFA Convention as a Three Star Chapter which is the highest national award category available to an FFA chapter.

The Manning FFA State Champion Parliamentary Procedure Team, Knowledge Bowl Team, Agricultural Issues Team and the Job Interview winner competed in the National Finals in Indianapolis, Indiana, during the National FFA Convention, October 20-23, attended by nearly 55,000 FFA members and guests representing every state, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
