MCBEE, SC….Officials representing the USDA Farm Service Agency, the SC Rural Rehabilitation Corporation and the SC FFA Office of Public Affairs were at McBee High School recently for a special ceremony recognizing the McBee FFA Chapter. The event was coordinated by John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FF organization, and W. Pat Earle, FFA Advisor at McBee High.
Larry Rogers, an official with the USDA Farm Service Agency that sponsors the National FFA Chapter Awards Program, recognized the McBee FFA Chapter as recipient of the Governor’s Citation of Accomplishment in Chapter Development for 2010 and presented the framed document to FFA Advisor Pat Earle, Chapter President Lauren Hobgood and State FFA Vice President Courtney Threat. An enlarged photo of the sponsors and the FFA representatives was presented to the chapter for display in the McBee High School FFA Hall of Fame.

Pat Earle.Wesley Harris, secretary-treasurer of the SC Rural Rehabilitation Corporation, a co-sponsor of the SC FFA Chapter Recognition Program, presented Mr. Earle and Chapter President Lauren Hobgood a check for $1000 to assist in defraying expenses for members to attend the National FFA Convention.
Among the highlights of the McBee FFA organization during the past school year included having the largest percentage of FFA membership of any chapter in the state with 184 members from a student body of 262; nine members awarded the State FFA Degree; nine members attended the National Young Farmer Educational Institute in Mobile, Alabama, to participate in a leadership seminar conducted by the Disney Foundation; a member named recipient of the Pee Dee Regional Individual FFA Award; chapter named the Community Involvement Award recipient by the Agrium Corporation; two members selected to participate in National FFA Chorus during the National FFA Convention; twenty two members attended the National FFA Convention; a visit by National FFA President Levy Randolph from California who was named an Honorary Member of the McBee Chapter; and being named recipient of the National Three Star Chapter Award for the tenth time in twelve years.
