MIDLAND VALLEY FFA RECOGNIZED FOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS
GRANITEVILLE, SC…Officials representing the USDA Farm Service Agency, the SC Rural Rehabilitation Corporation and the SC FFA Office of Public Affairs participated in a ceremony recognizing the Midland Valley FFA Chapter at the high school on Tuesday, December 14, 2010.
Midland Valley FFA President Aaron Floyd presided over the event and FFA Secretary Sara Rains offered the invocation.
Larry Rogers, an official with the USDA Farm Service Agency that sponsors the National FFA Chapter Awards and Recognition Program, recognized the FFA members and Advisor Jeremy Brooks for being named recipient of the Governor’s Citation of Accomplishment in Student Development. Mr. Rogers was joined by chapter president Aaron Floyd and Mr. Books in unveiling the citation and an enlarged photo to be permanently displayed in the school.
Wesley Harris, secretary-treasurer of the SC Rural Rehabilitation Corporation, a co-sponsor of the Recognition Program, announced that his organization had provided a check in the amount of $1000 to the chapter to assist with the expenses of representatives to attend the recent National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana.
John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA organization, praised the FFA members and Advisor Jeremy Brooks for their outstanding accomplishments that earned them a Gold Emblem Award by the state FFA organization and a top ranked Three Star Honor by the 523,000 member National FFA Organization in 2010. He also thanked the school administrators, trustees, parents and others for their excellent support of the agricultural education youth organization. “Jeremy Brooks provides the leadership and inspiration necessary to challenge his students to develop one of the outstanding FFA chapters in the nation,” Mr. Parris said.
Midland Valley Assistant Principal Marc Funderburk addressed the large gathering of FFA members and guests and expressed his gratitude for the excellent FFA program and superb Agri-science education department under the leadership of Mr. Brooks. Dr. Beth Everitt, school district superintendent, was also in attendance for the recognition ceremony.
“The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through Agricultural Education,” Mr. Parris said. “The Midland Valley FFA group is definitely fulfilling that mission.”
