PENDLETON FFA POULTRY TEAM TO COMPETE IN NATIONAL FINALS

CLEMSON, SC…Pendleton High School FFA members Zac McDougal, Emma Job, Weston Link and Amanda Hunteman will represent South Carolina in the National FFA Poultry Evaluation Finals held during the National FFA Convention in October, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA organization. The team will be accompanied to Indianapolis, Indiana by FFA advisor and team coach Blake Berry, an Agricultural Education instructor at Pendleton High School.

“The team took first place honors in the state FFA-sponsored Poultry Evaluation Finals during the recent SC FFA convention at Clemson University,” Mr. Parris said. “As a result of being named state champions in the competition, the students and Mr. Berry were awarded expense-paid trips the national convention by the SC FFA Foundation to participate in the national finals,” he added.

Team member Zac McDougal was the second high individual scorer in the state competition.

The Pendleton Agricultural Education Department includes Poultry Science in its curriculum because of the importance of the poultry industry to the South Carolina agriculture economy. Broiler production is the number one agricultural commodity in the state and accounts for more than 20 percent of the total farm income.
