CLEMSON, SC….William Johnson, a 2010 graduate of Barnwell High School, was recognized as the FFA Star in Agricultural Placement for the Lower State Region during the recent state FFA convention at Clemson University. The recognition program is sponsored by the SC FFA Foundation.
“The FFA Star in Agricultural Placement Recognition is designed to spotlight the outstanding FFA member in each of four regions in the state who excelled in on-the-job training in an agricultural industry setting while enrolled in high school agricultural education courses,” said John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA organization. William worked on the farm of his uncle, Frank Chavis, producing specialty crops including watermelons, cantaloupes and sweet corn.
A student at Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College, William is majoring in Sustainable Agriculture with plans to eventually transfer to Clemson University. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Steven Johnson of Barnwell, William’s FFA advisor is Mindy Sandifer, Agricultural Education instructor at the Barnwell County Career Center..
“The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through Agriculture Education,” Mr. Parris added.
